I think there is no ethical truths, Because subjectivism does not settle with questions of what we should or should't do. It also says in the book pages 98 that there is no ethical truth. Therefore, i believe that there are no ethical truth.

DeleteI disagree, because subjectivity or an ethical opinion requires some form of basis, which usually means there is a fact or other point behind the formulation of that thought, which seems more likely to point to an ethical truth.
I disagree, because in order to know something you have to question yourself using the 3 types of knowledge. in that way you may see the distinction of the reality and by questioning yourself using the three types of knowledge.
DeleteEhical truth is one's own will and sentiment of choosing.
DeleteI disagree, because if there was no ethical truth.. this statement that you made would be considered not true. Because how then can we distinguish truth and no truth if there was no such thing as truth.
DeleteI disagree, if there is no Ethical truth, we will not know the different between actions that are right and wrong.
DeleteI believe there to be ethical truths founded in ethical realism. For one example from the book an ethical claim they have is “Paying your taxes is good” the reasons why paying taxes is good come from the fact that they support the government (which in an ideal world would not be corrupt). The government in turn supports and maintains the country’s infrastructure, people, trade, and borders. Which would again lead people to living a life which will make it possible for them to live and work in a way where their freedoms are maintained and the country flourishes.
ReplyDeleteI agree, that ethical truths is found in ethical realism. the reason I agree because based on the three types of knowledge ( knowledge of acquaintance, prepositional knowledge, and know how) shows that it will be useful in realism. for example many years until know I have been fixing broken chair and make it into brand new one. in that meaning I am able to know which is the fastest way of how to fix a broken chair to a brand new one and the slowest way of fixing a broken chair. in that meaning I am using the type of knowledge called
Delete" Know How".
Yes I agree that ethical truth found in realism. And the example that the person made is perfect. I believe that what make things progress and people are enjoy living in a peaceful place because of the existing truth. People in a place that limit the knowledge of truth are suffered under oppression. For example, in North Korea many people are not allow to study in the higher education because the government have different definition of ethical truth.

ReplyDeleteWhether it is from facts (realism) or from people or God (conventionalism), I believe there to be ethical truths. An example from the book is: Honesty is a Virtue. If there is no ethical truth, then we would be free and able to do what we want, because we want to. Nobody and Nothing can tell us what we can and cannot do (subjectivism).

DeleteAnother problem with ethical subjectivism that comes to mind is that clear ways to act would not exist and there would be a state of what might be called moral anarchy, where anything goes and no clear good or evil acts existed.
From a student:
ReplyDeleteI believe that there are ethical truths. It wouldn’t make sense if there was no ethical truth. Without ethical truths, people would be free to do whatever they want. There would be no regard to whether or not the things that are being done are right or wrong. But because there are ethical truths, laws are created and there are people who actually follow those laws. All in all, ethical or moral truths do exist.
yes I agree that there is an ethical truth in this world and without ethical truth then everything we believe in or think is actually aren't take reality for example, things will just go as they are there will be chaos if people did not believe in ethical truth.
DeleteYes I agree that there is ethical truth. The reason that I agree with is because it make things go well. Without ethical truth there will be no norm and everything will be corrupt. Law are created to protect the existing truth. If there is no ethical truth there won't be no government, no school, everybody will do whatever they want. Ethical truth gives us the choice to do what is right.
DeleteFrom a student:
ReplyDeleteYes, there is ethical truth, what makes them true and what explains their truth is the ethical realism views the facts that are stated in an individual's will or sentiments. Conventionalism shares a light on the truth which makes sure that there is a moral truth and are true by will or sentiment. These are the facts that make ethical truth and explain their truth according to Payne.
I agree, there is Ethical truth, because we understand what is right and wrong.
DeleteYes, i do agree that there are ethical truth and its true if we did not have ethical truths than people will be doing whatever they want
ReplyDeleteYes I agree also. Ethical truths is that knowing the distinctions of what is right and wrong. If there is no ethical truths, there will be more problems against others, and there will be no changes. It will be more worse and have no knowledge of ethical truths.
DeleteI say there is Ethical Truth. The reason why I say that there is Ethical Truth is because in this Modern World we are full of questions. We don't know which answers is acceptable of our questions in order to know the answers we must go back to our culture. I belief our culture is the first thing we might think of when We are confuse of which way or which answer you will accept. Culture is a belief that we think it correct when we follow it. because our people long belief in it and it will guide them to know the right way. so from that we also do it. that is the reason why I say there is Ethical Truth
ReplyDeleteOne ethical truth is that God is real. The bible explains that this is true. I believe it is true because all the things that were mentioned in the bible have left reasons such as the events that happened, the stories that were told, and the prophecies. The story told in the bible about the city of Babylon is said to be the reason why we have different languages. Also, the things that took place in the bible, such as how the lands were ruled. Lastly, how the prophecies were told and some being fulfilled. I mean why would someone write all of those for nothing. I am pretty sure the bible was written a long time ago because of the different books and the way it is written. Another thing would be miracles. If it was not true, where do miracles come from?.
